In providing a common central repository of all software changes, MDT AutoSave can ensure that if a device fails, the most current copies of program logic and documentation are available so plant operations can be restored quickly and correctly.

There can be numerous disks and laptops located throughout the plant, each containing different program and document versions. Inefficiencies are inevitable, costly and even dangerous. In providing a common central repository of all changes, historical changes can also be analyzed to identify bottlenecks and observe trends in programming practices so operational improvements can be made.

IMPROVE SECURITY

AutoSave is designed to manage access to program areas and programs via a flexible privileging system. When physical access to automation devices is prohibited (ensuring changes can only be made through MDT AutoSave) all changes in program logic are recorded by user, date, time, location and specific change detail. When physical access to the devices is possible, AutoSave periodically compares the program running in each device with the program copy on file in AutoSave and identifies any differences. An email notification is then sent highlighting these differences.
AUTOMATED ARCHIVES/COMPARES
This is one of the most powerful AutoSave features. Compare and backup procedures can be initiated on a scheduled basis. You can be sure the most up-to-date program is always in use at each station and that a current backup is readily available. Groups of programs from the floor can be uploaded automatically. In addition, comparisons can be made among any of the following copies:
 

Detailed, logic-to-logic and selected data table value comparison reports are generated and users are notified of miscomputes or upload failures via e-mail. These e-mailed results, generated for scheduled, program, check-in or demand compares, are viewed via a Web browser that features hypertext links to detailed logic and documentation differences.

Industry and risk management requirements for archiving data are easily supported with AutoSave. Every step of the programming change process is documented and validated, and a detailed history of each version is maintained.

AutoSave maintains the latest copy of all device programs. If a processor faults, the correct program can be restored quickly. Disaster is averted.

AUTOMATIC CHANGE NOTIFICATION
Whenever a change is made to a program, designated users are immediately notified via e-mail. This enhances communication and productivity and saves time.
